Conventional acne treatments don’t always work for everyone. They can also cause side effects ranging from skin irritation to birth defects. I have a question: I am a 19 year old male, who has been struggling with acne for years. I am completely willing to do the facial masks and everything, but I fear that a change in diet is not much of an option for me. I work four days a week in a pizza restaurant washing dishes and I can’t exactly afford to buy my own groceries. A guy has to eat so I am mostly confined to fast food and frozen processed foods. I understand that these foods are probably what condemn me most to my acne but I don’t know where else to go. Any help?

I would also suggest a wakeup and before going to bed rinse of your face with a cottonball or cottonpad dampened with witch hazel. It gently removes a lot of the oil from your skin without drying you out. Keep a small bottle of it with you during the day and it is great for a midday removal of any oil that may accumulate on your face.

honey– even though honey is the cure-all right now.. it never really helped me by using it topically; even though I dislike the taste, warm water mixed with honey is what my friend DRINKS daily to keep her skin clear

Hi everyone, I found this site approx 4 weeks ago and I’d just learned from a co-worker the various benefits of ACV. The key however was buying a brand that had the “mother” in it as it’s unfiltered. I had the chicken pox at age 20 and cystic acne took up residence on my face on and off for the last 20 years. It’s hormonal plain and simple. After tons of otc products and optioning against accutane and spiralactone, finally at age 40, I can honestly say I found my cure and ACV works. After reading this site and copying the recipe routine posted by 05/12/2009: Sandra D from Greenwood, IN I began the ACV treatment on my cystic acne and began to see immediate results and now 4 weeks later I’m testifying (with tears in eyes) that it worked. The ACV balances internal PH, aids in digestion and gave my skin a healthy glow. Without let up, I drink 2 tbspns of ACV in 8 ounces of water first thing in the morning and either after lunch or before bed. I don’t add honey as I don’t mind the bitter taste. I wash my face in the morning with either CeraVe or Dove, and use a cotton swab with the ACV as a toner. Personally, I don’t think the smell goes away much but after I put on my Mederma (for scars) and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Fade cream, then Aveeno moisturizer (LOL) I don’t smell anything. While the above changes helped, I was still breaking out. I finally saw a complete change in my face (everything drying up, no new breakouts) when I added oregano oil and candidase to my supplement regimen. I took the highest dose on the bottle of oregano oil and went through two bottles of candidase.
Tight-fitting exercise clothing that traps sweat next to skin on the back and blocks pores may contribute to outbreaks. People should consider wearing loose-fitting clothes, especially during a heavy gym session.
My 15 yr old grandson has SEVERE acne since he was 12. It appears to be worse than the ordinary acne. It is not only on his face but his arms, back & chest. What home remedy has the most positive results.
I’m not having pimples before but when summer starts it also starts to irritate my skin not only my face. Itchy irritations caused by heat starts to appear everywhere in my body and worst of all pimples starts to grow on my face! Big itchy bumps! I used an astringent that contains Vit C, but before some of my pimples starts to vanish, 2-3 big bumps are growing in numbers everyday! I tried the toothpaste and stopped using the astringent. It was quite effective but it leaves a dark spot on my face. Now I’m on to try the olive oil and the garlic. Hope it will work. 🙁

When he saw the severity of my breakouts, Dr. Crutchfield prescribed Accutane, which is an oral retinoid reserved for the most serious forms of acne. Accutane (isotretinoin) works by stopping oil production. The drug is heavily regulated by the FDA, and it’s not to be taken lightly. It has some extreme side effects like intense dryness of the skin, and it can cause birth defects if you get pregnant while on the medication. (I had to join the iPledge program to prevent fetal exposure to isotretinoin, which requires patients to use a form of birth control or maintain abstinence while on the drug; I chose the latter.)
Papaya is known to possess an enzyme named papain, which is helpful in treating minor wounds as well as conditions such as acne. In order to treat acne by using papaya, you can make a paste of the fruit and apply it to your skin. The use of a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher in the morning with reapplication every two hours is recommended when using hydroquinone. Its application only to affected areas lowers the risk of lightening the color of normal skin but can lead to a temporary ring of lightened skin around the hyperpigmented area. Hydroquinone is generally well-tolerated; side effects are typically mild (e.g., skin irritation) and occur with use of a higher than the recommended 4% concentration. Most preparations contain the preservative sodium metabisulfite, which has been linked to rare cases of allergic reactions including anaphylaxis and severe asthma exacerbations in susceptible people. In extremely rare cases, repeated improper topical application of high-dose hydroquinone has been associated with an accumulation of homogentisic acid in connective tissues, a condition known as exogenous ochronosis.
