Cystic acne has haunted me most of my life. I got through puberty relatively clear, but at 18, my face started to light up like fireworks on the Fourth of July. My skin was covered with painful, large bumps that would stay for weeks and eventually leave dark scars. I spent eight years trying to cure it with acne medication like over-the-counter products, prescription creams, and two rounds of Accutane. Finally, I gave up trying to fix it—and that’s when everything got better.
Therefore, it is very important that you wear sunscreen everyday, with an SPF of 30.Of note, after SPF 30, there are decreasing marginal returns in UVB protection. The % of UVB protection as a function of SPF Value is a log graph and plateaus after SPF 30. Therefore, there is not much difference in protection between SPF 40 and 50. Sunscreens with an SPF 100 are banned in some countries.
Wash your face with water and pat almost dry, leaving it a bit damp. Grate 1 raw potato and rub the pulp and juice onto your face for a few minutes in a circular motion. Let it dry for 15-30 minutes, and then rinse off completely with warm water.
Bottom line? If you want to get serious about cystic acne treatment, there’s no getting around time-consuming derm visits and prescribed meds. But here’s the upshot: We can take action from our own bathrooms to help minimize cystic acne from forming and help control those mighty bumps in between doctor’s visits (or until we meet the deductible on our health insurance, anyway). Hey girls and guys:) I’ve had problem skin since my early 20’s. Then I had kids and when they suffered from acne, I was more desperate than ever to find a “cure”. I was lucky enough to get a pushy sales person at The Body Shop. They have a great line of tea tree oil face products! The face wash is a miracle! It cleared up me and my kids! It’s kind of expensive but worth it. Plus, The Body Shop uses a lot of natural ingredients and they participate in fair trade:) ..I tend to have a bad reaction to ANYTHING on my face. I’m getting older and I needed to moisturize as well as fight acne (still). The Body Shop has another line of skin products, called Drops of Youth. All of those products are wonderful! They have plant-stem cells in them. They don’t only fight effects of age but also they all help make skin healthier and have less acne. You can order it online and if you don’t like it, return it!

Your individual genetic code or DNA, will determine the amount of androgen hormones that you have and how much they will change. This in turn will also determine how severe, how long, and how often you will have cystic acne.
Many individuals develop cystic acne during puberty, and any life event that causes hormonal fluctuations can increase the severity and prevalence of cystic acne breakouts. Many wonder if cystic acne is genetic, and in most cases, hereditary factors do come into play.
“I get nervous about exfoliating with grainy scrubs, because people tend to be too rough. If you scrub too vigorously, you end up overdrying the skin, which causes the skin produce more oil, subsequently causing more breakouts. Also, the skin on your chest is extremely thin and can scar easily if you accidentally remove the skin — which I’ve seen patients do. What I do recommend, and what I actually do myself, is use a shower puff once a week with the salicylic acid wash. I use a soft scrubbing motion over my chest and back, and when I’m out of the shower, I immediately wash the pouf since they are hotbeds for bacteria growth.” Try this $3 version from The Body Shop.
Sad but true: Bacne happens. Those pores deep down your back get clogged, too. Luckily, Elizabeth Hale, a dermatologist in New York City, has helpful advice on how to treat (and prevent) backside breakouts. “One of the most common causes of back acne is sweaty clothes,” says Hale. “Hair follicles in the back can trap sweat and bacteria and cause breakouts, so the first thing is to get out of that sweaty sports bra after the gym.”
I’m 13 and my acne has never really bothered me, but my sisters are both beauty queens and are always pestering me to wear nicer clothes get rid of the few pimples I have( you can barely see them because unlike my porcelain skin blemish free faces of my sisters I have lots of freckles). I liked some of the ideas. But I had to add to my allergy list. Apparently I’m allergic to eggs. Never noticed because I’m so sensitive to so many chemicals and have allergies, the only thing my mom can make me eat is organic vegetables and sometimes organic grass fed beef. But at least my acne cleared up. :3
I have! Recently started using it, about three weeks ago. It is aswmoee, I feel comfortable going without make-up and that is a big deal for me because I have always been self conscious of my scars and blemishes. My friends and family always comment on how much my face is clearing up, and I feel great! After only three weeks of using it to, I can’t wait to see what a few months will do! Just make sure you use it on a regular basis, get on a schedule and it works wonders. I also find that drinking water with 1/4 of fresh lemon squeezed in it helps too. Gross, but it works. And if you’re like me, you’d do anything to have clear skin.
Isotretinoin: Accutane was the original brand name; there are now several generic versions in common use, including Sotret, Claravis, and Amnesteem. Isotretinoin is an excellent treatment for severe, scarring, persistent acne and has been used on millions of patients since it was introduced in Europe in 1971 and in the U.S. in 1982. It should be used for people with severe acne, chiefly of the cystic variety, that has been unresponsive to conventional therapies like those listed above. If taken in sufficient dosage, it should eliminate the need to continue the use of prescription drugs in most patients. The drug has many potential serious side effects and requires a number of unique controls before it is prescribed. This means that isotretinoin is not a good choice for people whose acne is not that severe but who are frustrated and want “something that will knock acne out once and for all.” In order to use the drug, the prescribing physician, the patient, and the supplying pharmacy must be enrolled in the online “iPLEDGE PROGRAM.” Used properly, isotretinoin is safe and produces few side effects beyond dry lips and occasional muscle aches. This drug is prescribed for five to six months at a dosage that has a high likelihood of preventing the return of acne. Fasting blood tests are monitored monthly to check liver function and the level of triglycerides, substances related to cholesterol, which often rise a bit during treatment but rarely to the point at which treatment has to be modified or stopped.
I highly recommend using Cetaphil for a cleanser in the morning and evening. I have been using it for 20 years and love it! I graduated from the Aveda Institute of Beauty & Wellness where I specialized in skin, waxing, and make-up etc…, but I still continue to use my Cetaphil cleansing bar and Cetaphil Moisturizing cream. You can purchase it at almost any store. Cetaphil is non-comedegenic, fragrance free, mild, non-abrasive, harmless to the skin, and inexpensive. If i ever get a pimple it is usually gone the next day or shortly after I cleanse with Cetaphil. The moisturizing cream I use is the thick emollient in a tub, mainly for the winter and it works awesome after cleansing. I also tested the moisturizer and it is 100% PH balanced meaning its completely balanced and not acidic nor alkaline. If you have oily skin always use a foamy wash or a cleanser for sensitive skin with acne, such as cetaphil. If your skin is on the dry side use a cream cleanser. Always make sure its fragrance free too. Ladies, wash your make-up brushes at least once a week to prevent acne. If you see a film that creates little lines expecially on forehead, then you should start drinking a lot of water and wear a hydrating mask a couple times a week. Wash your pillow cases and wipe your cell phones! Never scrub your face or you will start to break down the barriers of your skin. That’s all for now. 🙂 hope this helps
Thank you for sharing such great tips! Ive experienced moderate acne breakouts since I was 11. Now in my late 20s I had tried everything from chemical to natural remedies, food diets, allergy elimination, you name it. By chance, due to a tummy bug, I discovered GRAPEFRUIT. After eating ORGANIC ruby red grapefruits (a whole one, no sugar, skins peeled) or natural grapefruit seed extract (12-14 drops in 8oz of water) once a day, everyday for 7 days or so, my skin stopped breaking out. Once every few months, one or two will pop up right before my period, but I hardly notice. That was a year ago. Now, I must admit that Ive missed a few days here and there and when I my skin reacts and breaks out a bit again. Since doing some research on grapefruit seed extract Ive chosen to just eat organic grapefruits. My favorite are larger ruby red ones. They are sweeter and super awesome (: Eating grapefruits has become a daily healing ritual for me. I am SO GRATEFUL to have found this amazing fruit has seriously changed my life, given me permission, so to speak, to feel more confident and radiate my light from within (: I just wanted to share with everyone, maybe it can help you too! (:
