I suffered from painful acne on my back and a little on my face for years. For me it was an internal/hormonal problem. I tried medication from my doctor but the acne would return as soon as I stopped the tablets.

Most studies of acne drugs have involved people 12 years of age or older. Increasingly, younger children are getting acne as well. In one study of 365 girls ages 9 to 10, 78 percent of them had acne lesions. If your child has acne, consider consulting a pediatric dermatologist. Ask about drugs to avoid in children, appropriate doses, drug interactions, side effects, and how treatment may affect a child’s growth and development.
One such anti-inflammatory, isotretinoin (better known as Accutane), is a relative of vitamin A. It cleared up my own skin after nearly a decade of severe acne, amazingly. As Kim describes it, “People initially didn’t understand how isotretinoin or retinoids worked, but we now know that they can modulate inflammation.” Still the drug is not without its issues. It did work a miracle for me, but I also endured months of very dry skin, had to get a number of blood tests, and could not drink alcohol (while in college). Since Michigan’s former Representative Bart Stupak’s testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee in 2009 and blamed isotretinoin for the tragic suicide of his 17-year-old son, restrictions on prescribing the drug have become tight.
Many people believe that homemade remedies for acne can’t possibly be acne cures. Among many of the so-called medical skin care experts, homemade treatments for acne are thought to be merely old wives’ tales and not scientifically proven. Perhaps this is so – the scientifically proven part, that is. Nonetheless – the reason why those old wives were talking so much and passing along information for generations about how to cure acne, is because they conducted their own ‘scientific’ studies – they experimented, observed the results, and experimented again until they had their own proven methods for curing acne. These holistic acne treatments are still viable today, and can stand up against even the most ‘scientifically advanced’ drug based acne treatments.
What is the best product for acne if you have dry skin? Coconut oil is one of the most versatile and healthy oils on earth. While it can be too heavy for some skin, coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer. A study published in Biomaterials found that lauric acid found in coconut oil demonstrates the strongest bacterial activity against acne caused by bacteria. (12) There is an increasing demand for coconut oil beauty products because the lauric acid, antioxidants and medium-chain fatty acids hydrate and restore skin and hair.
Elle and Aya!! I have had cystic acne since puberty… Its been getting better (im now 21) but still comes around every week or every other week.. And when it hits it hits hard and everywhere 🙁 I have been traveling with my parents overseas since I was pretty much able to walk…. Hawaii, new zealand, australia, europe, carribean islands, I live on marthas vineyard.. Which I guess is overseas.. Mexico and costa rica too! My younger sister has PERFECT skin… Maybe an occasional whitehead… Me, being older have traveled more than her and to certain countries she’s never been! I will try googling different search terms that correlate with foreign countries and cystic acne.. Maybe its a bacteria/skin disease one can literally catch from the water out there that the natives are immune to! Who knows… But this is fascinating…. I take ACV internally on occasion, but am going to use it as a toner RIGHT NOW! Thank you all! And also… Does anyone have any good alternatives to A____ tablets? ones without artificial sweeteners? I also have bad constipation… The best thing for me (because laxatives are terrible for you) are stool softeners… Docusate sodium (dulcolax makes the most effective ones) I eat oatmeal every day and occasionally use the leftover on my face! Great for drying whiteheads and helping draw up the cysts. Maybe ill mix some ACV with plain yogurt and oatmeal! SO GLAD I found this site! I’ll be posting more of my remedies while using ones I find here as well!
As cystic acne has a greater effect on the appearance of the face and other areas of skin on the body, it has the propensity to cause more drastic psychological effects. Studies have found that girls may be more vulnerable to negative emotional effects of acne, but either gender can face extreme psychological consequences from untreated acne. Acne has been associated with an increased risk of depression, suicide ideation, and anxiety. It’s important to receive treatment as soon as possible to avoid these damaging psychological effects.
Cystic acne is the most severe form of common acne (acne vulgaris). Those afflicted have a predisposition for their acne to form deep, tender inflammatory fluid-filled cysts that tend to heal with scarring.
the reason of acne is also the absence of light and air. If you have acne on your shoulders, chest, back etc. you can make them go away just by walking undressed (top of body). Any kind of natural light will do. When the sun is shining hard it’s better of course because the pimples will dehydrate.
There are numerous treatments and ointments available designed to heal acne scars, including laser and light therapies, subcision, dermal injections, chemical peels, and punch grafts. The invasiveness and cost of these treatment plans can vary greatly.
Due to their absorbent, exfoliating and astringent properties, clay mask is considered one of the beneficial ingredients to treat cystic acne. It draws out the excess sebum, toxins and impurities to the skin surface which makes the acne come to head fast. This may look like the acne got worst but in fact it is the right of healing it faster without leaving a scar.
While hormonal therapies, especially the start of combination oral contraception, may sometimes yield rapid benefits on their own, most patients with cystic acne will require some sort of combination therapy that includes oral antibiotics. The usual combinations of estradiol with levonorgestrel, norgestimate or norethindrone (Levonest, Angeliq, Activella, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Trinessa, Prefest) are usually well tolerated, especially in younger patients. Those oral contraceptives that use drospirenone as the progesterone component (Yasmin, Yaz, Ocella) may be especially useful in some patients but should not be combined with spironolactone discussed below because of a risk of high potassium levels (hyperkalemia). There have been past reports of decreased contraceptive effectiveness if the patient is also on a tetracycline medication, a common combination for cystic acne, but review of the literature supports that while this may occur occasionally, it is actually quite uncommon. That being said, any patient whose previously regular periods change once a tetracycline medication has been started should take additional precautions to avoid pregnancy.
Im 25 years old and haven’t really suffered from “acne” as such but what i have suffered with is the odd pimple of two , really stubborn ones which i can’t stand and start to squeeze inorder to get rid of it instead it just makes it worse !! And when trying to conceal using foundations makes it look a 100 times worse , is there anything i can do to prevent these few spots coming in the first place … i also notice it seems to be during my menstrual cycle !!! 🙁
get a plastic container and pour like 1/3 cup of baking soda in it, then put in hot water (not too hot) in with it. dont put too much water in the container or it will be too runny. get enough water so its a slick paste and put it on your face. scrub deep so it gets in your skin. the baking soda solution will lessen the redness on your face and help decrease out breaks. 😀 i just tried this and i do it in the shower, it helps alot. hopefully it will keep working and i hope it works for you:-P good luck
Oral antibiotics are designed to kill the acne-causing bacteria found within your skin pores. The most common oral antibiotics prescribed for acne treatment are Tetracyclines, which include Minocycline and Doxycycline, and Erthromycin. Like their topical antibiotics counterparts, bacterial resistance may result in ineffectiveness of this treatment regimen so overuse is to be avoided.
Pete, I know exactly how you feel. My acne began when I was just 11 and I was regularly bullied (even my teachers made fun of me). My self-esteem shot way, way down and there were some low points where I didn’t want to go on. But a couple of years later I found a really great, supportive group of friends who made me realise that your skin is really just the tiniest part of what makes you an amazing person. It seems like nobody can see the real you underneath but believe me, if you stay positive and concentrate on the things that make you happy, it will shine through.

Hi! I tried doing a routine of oil cleansing, honey cleansing, and apple cider vinegar toner and my skin started breaking out much worse than before, I waited a bit to see if this reaction would go away but eventually resorted to going to a dermatologist and getting prescribed medication. My acne is much better now but I don’t want to take medication anymore. Do you think maybe I just needed to give my routine a longer chance to work (maybe I was detoxing?)? Or maybe these natural remedies just don’t work for me? (I hope that’s not the case!)
Acne, pimples, zits and blemishes often appear on the face, back, chest, neck, and shoulders where skin has the most amount of oil glands. Few of us are immune to breakouts, but treatments can minimize outbreaks. Follow these 15 tips for a clear complexion and skin.
Something you might not think about is what else touches your face daily, like towels and pillowcases. To reduce the chances of irritation and sensitivity, it’s a really smart idea to avoid washing these items with strong detergents and bleaches. Instead, opt for natural and unscented laundry products, like my Homemade Laundry Soap. You also want to change your towels and pillowcases frequently to avoid the presence and spread of bacteria, which only make your acne worse.
hi.i suggest u all 2 don’t put anything on your face.because putting every thing can damage the skin cells and tissue.wash your face twice a day with any mild soap.its better.i thing i wannt to say this is all about blood.
