Now I walk with confidence instead of hiding my face from the world. Funny enough, people compliment me on my skin more than ever. In a recent study in Taiwan at Chang Gung University, the use of curcumin in fighting the Propionibacterium species, the main cause of inflammatory acne, was investigated. To deliver curcumin through the skin, a lipid (oil) vehicle was tested, and lauric acid (C:12) was found as the most effective lipid vehicle in inhibiting acne. The lipid vehicle of lauric acid was found to penetrate the skin and accumulate in the skin, along with the curcumin, providing an effective combination in inhibiting acne.
A combination of better diet, less stress, and the right topical products should keep hormonal acne under control. But if in addition to breakouts, you also have irregular periods and hair growth along the jawline or on your chest, an underlying hormonal abnormality could be to blame, says Dr. Zeichner. It’s worth seeing a dermatologist for evaluation, he says, so you can get the treatment you need.
For me, my acne began to clear up quite a bit just after the first few applications of baking soda. It also helped the appearance of my scars because it also acts as an exfoliator. Sorry to hear it became worse, this is the first I have heard of this. Hope you can find another natural solution.

In all that, I learned that it is a waste of money. Many of these brands have EXTREMELY harmful chemicals that will only work for a limited amount of time. I’ve found that EVERYONE’S SKIN IS DIFFERENT, so don’t go with whatever your friends use.

The best way to fix them: This is where the classic zit treatments come into play. “Topical medications are the best way to treat a lesion like this,” says Jennifer Chwalek, M.D., a dermatologist at Union Square Laser Dermatology in NYC. “Benzoyl peroxide-, salicylic acid-, or sulfur-based products can help to dry it up.” She prefers salicylic acid over benzoyl peroxide for these, since the latter can cause irritation, dryness, and even post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (a.k.a. dark spots) in those with darker skin tones. Retinol works well for these, too.
It does stink that getting acne under control requires A LOT of trial and error, but it IS possible to get under control, with commitment! And, HELL YES, food definitely matters. Food has a HUGE impact on our hormones. It is such a pet peeve of mine that dermatologists and text books still insist that they aren’t related (actually, a fair number totally contradict themselves).
Many individuals develop cystic acne during puberty, and any life event that causes hormonal fluctuations can increase the severity and prevalence of cystic acne breakouts. Many wonder if cystic acne is genetic, and in most cases, hereditary factors do come into play.
Remember to shower as soon as you get home from the gym or from office. Keeping your body clean should be your first and foremost concern. To get rid of back acne, this is your best option.
