Antibiotics , either topically applied to the skin (clindamycin, erythromycin), or taken orally (tetracycline and its derivatives, ethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) control surface bacteria and reduce inflammation in the skin. Antibiotics are more effective when combined with benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. The oral retinoid isotretinoin (Absorica, Amnesteem, Claravis, Myorisan and Zenatane) is reserved for people with severe (nodular or cystic) disease. Isotretinoin shrinks the size of oil glands, the anatomic origin of acne. Without active, plump oil glands, acne actively diminishes. Side effects can include dry skin, elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, and birth defects. Women of childbearing age must practice birth control before, during, and after treatment (often a year) with isotretinoin. The use of isotretinoin requires rigorous testing (cholesterol, pregnancy) and follow-up for the prescribed period (5 or more months). It is reserved for the most severe types of acne that do not respond to other treatments.

I just needed to get used to the idea about The Danish Acne Cure. Since I studied cosmetology, my ideas were very specific about which skin care I thought was best, but in October I found The Danish Acne Cure and decided to try it. What I had done so far for my acne had never helped, so what did I have to lose? Today – only 3 month later – there is very little impure skin left on my face and I’m just so pleased with the results; otherwise I would never recommend it to others.

Extractions are also out when it comes to cystic zits. S. Manjula Jegasothy, MD, a Miami-based dermatologist with a celebrity-rich clientele, notes that these suckers can start deep in the skin, at one-to-two millimeters beneath its surface. “They’re extremely difficult, if not impossible, to extract or ‘pop,’ even by a skin-care specialist or dermatologist,” she says. In short, these zits are deep-rooted and tough to fight, which is why our pros suggest booking an appointment with a derm as a first line of defense. Prescribed treatments like oral antibiotics, some types of birth control pills, Aldactone, (a pituitary hormonal oral medicine), and isotretinoin (what used to be known as Accutane) top Dr. Jegasothy’s list of prescribed treatments.

Hey girls and guys:) I’ve had problem skin since my early 20’s. Then I had kids and when they suffered from acne, I was more desperate than ever to find a “cure”. I was lucky enough to get a pushy sales person at The Body Shop. They have a great line of tea tree oil face products! The face wash is a miracle! It cleared up me and my kids! It’s kind of expensive but worth it. Plus, The Body Shop uses lot of natural ingredients and they participate in fair trade:) ..I tend to have a bad reaction to ANYTHING on my face. I’m getting older and I needed to moisturize as well as fight acne (still). The Body Shop has another line of skin products, called Drops of Youth. All of those products are wonderful! They have plant-stem cells in them. They don’t only fight effects of age but also they all help make skin healthier and have less acne. You can order it online and if you don’t like it, return it!

A few weeks ago I decided it was time for a last-ditch effort. Why now? I just got into a new relationship. My boyfriend, Ben, tells me he loves me no matter what my skin looks like. But I’ll admit, sometimes I doubt that. And I know I won’t really feel good about myself until my acne is gone. So I make an appointment with Ava Shamban, MD, owner of the Laser Institute-Dermatology in Santa Monica, Calif. Shamban is the celebrity dermatologist on “Extreme Makeover,” and the author of “Heal Your Skin.” If she can’t help me, I’m afraid I’m un-helpable. But here comes that hope again.

Many people swear by alternative acne treatments. But the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says that “all-natural supplements” have not been shown to be effective, and some may even be harmful. For example, the group cites an over-the-counter (OTC) acne supplement that contained more than 200 times the amount of selenium stated on the label. It caused a wide range of toxic reactions. The AAD also states that there is no evidence that any dietary regimen has an effect on acne.

Overexposure to the sun’s rays dries you out and creates dead flakey skin. That dead skin clogs the pores on your back and shoulders. This causes pimples. So you should be careful to always use sunscreen and refrain from laying out in the sun too much—it also causes cancer, which you don’t want either.

Make an anti-acne paste using half teaspoon turmeric mixed in sufficient quantity of distilled water or lemon juice. Apply the paste on the affected areas and leave on overnight. In the morning wash off turmeric using paste of baking soda and lukewarm water. This treatment should be done without fail every night for two months. At the end of two months you will see considerable improvement in the acne as well as in your skin tone.

  1. Two big points to look at; clean you phone!!!!! Take a Clorox wipe and wipe that sucker down. And if you use a headset? Clean that. Wash down your keyboard. This needs to be done at least weekly. And more often if you’ve kids that play with them. The other is your tweezers. Throw them out or get a tiny mirror to pluck your brows. And remember to clean those too!
