“Like the face, one’s upper torso and back have more sebaceous (oil producing) glands than any other area of the body, which means it produces more of the skin’s natural oil, increasing the likelihood of developing body acne in these areas. Exfoliating on a regular basis is also important since the skin cells on the back may not slough off as efficiently as needed and that pile up can aggravate acne,” says Dr. Doris Day, MD, New York City dermatologist and Olay Professional Alliance member. Baking soda is a great option for clearing up blemishes, it’s cheap, it’s natural, and it doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals or other ingredients. The benefits of baking soda are many: it exfoliates, it reduces inflammation, and it clears up skin. All you have to do is use warm water and baking soda to make a paste. Then, apply the paste to your skin like a mask. Leave it on for up to an hour, and then rinse. You will be amazed at the results.
never really had trouble wth pimples but when they started to get bad someone told me to take fish oil pills (2 pills each time) day and night.(she took it three times a day). i never really get that bad of acne because what it does is eventually drys up your pores B-)
Cystic acne is the most severe form of common acne (acne vulgaris). Those afflicted have a predisposition for their acne to form deep, tender inflammatory fluid-filled cysts that tend to heal with scarring.
Dealing with zits on your face is one thing—but back acne (aka bacne) is another level of annoying. At least when you’re wrestling with an angry blemish in your T-zone you can see what you’re doing. Not so when pimples pop up on your back. It’s hard enough just getting soap back there—applying zit cream between your shoulder blades is like a pulled muscle waiting to happen. And it might not work anyway, because the skin on your back doesn’t respond as well to many of the acne treatments you use on your face.

Turmeric powder is a very powerful anti-bacterial agent. Whether it is consumed or applied directly to the skin, the curumin found in turmeric will assist in fighting cystic acne by breaking down the cysts. When the curumin is combined with lauric acid, (another powerful anti-bacterial agent found in coconut oil,) they work together to defeat acne inside and out.
Its severity can vary from just a few spots to larger clusters of affected areas. As well as on the back, acne can appear on the face, neck, and chest. If acne is left untreated, dark spots and permanent scars can appear on the skin as it clears.
If you’re on a budget and have mild to moderate acne, an at-home device like the Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Treatment Mask (Buy now: $29, amazon.com) or the Foreo Espada Acne-Clearing Blue Light Pen (Buy now: $149, amazon.com) could be a good alternative.

A variety of home remedies such as baking soda, various masks, apple cider vinegar, and tea tree oil have been recommended for cystic acne, and often one may find testimonials for these remedies on line, especially on the web sites selling these supplements or alternative therapies. When put to scientific challenge, they are usually found to be ineffective and may only delay diagnosis and effective treatment.
In one study, 43 people followed either a high- or low-glycemic diet. After 12 weeks, the individuals consuming a low-glycemic diet had a significant improvement in both acne and insulin sensitivity, compared to those eating carb-dense foods (62).
Makeup products don’t clog up pores and cause pimples, as acne is caused by sebum production that comes from within the skin. While makeup doesn’t necessarily cause pimples, there are products to avoid and much to be said about washing off cosmetics before working out and prior to going to bed.
When we say “cured,” we mean that in almost all cases -even the toughest – the acne cure program we describe in this book will eliminate virtually all blemishes, inflammation, redness, whiteheads, and blackheads within no more than 6 weeks. Milder cases may be resolved in only a few days or even – as in Heather’s case – overnight. Sure, there may be recurrences (although they are unlikely if you stick to the maintenance program), but they too can be rapidly resolved, usually in just a few days.
Hydrocortizone also helps lessen the redness of pimples. I have used Proactiv, as well as every other treatment under the sun, and I really believe it’s terrible for your skin. It WILL bleach your skin. It has bleach in it. A good toner- Witch Hazel. It’s about $2.00 in stores. Don’t bother paying SO MUCH MONEY on products. Otherwise, you may do much more damage than help. Don’t risk it, and don’t be manipulated. Take the natural approach. Also, the choice of makeup is vital. I know MAC is incredible. However, organic makeup does wonders for the skin. And it’s cheaper. Neutrogena works very well, but try organic.
Egg whites are an easy and affordable way to help reduce acne and fade scars left by unfortunate blemishes. The reason people have found egg whites to be helpful for their skin is because they’re chock full of proteins and vitamins that both combat acne, and help to rebuild your skin cells. They also soak up excess oil, which means excess sebum, (exactly what you were thinking right?) which means less stuff for bacteria to feed on. Hooray! Just make sure to use a good moisturizer afterwards, as they can dry your skin out a bit.
Potentially the easiest and cheapest option, “Clay masks help draw out impurities such as dirt and oil at the surface level of the skin which helps with acne breakouts. It will help to dry up the acne,” says Dr. Bank. You can usually find a large tube (meant for your entire face) at the drugstore, and using it as a spot treatment will make it last forever. Just look for a mask with kaolin or bentonite clay as the primary ingredient.
Peter, please don’t give up & don’t do anything drastic!! I am so sorry for your agony & devastation!! Keep your chin up & know that it WILL get better!! Not overnight, but soon… just keep hanging in there!!
I do agree about the alkalizing. Whenever I am more consistent drinking my sea salt, baking soda, and lemon juice drinks I can tell my face is clearer. One other thing that has helped me is making sure I take a couple tabespoons of granulated lecithin each day to help flush out those rancid oils in my body. I also use ACV on my face with a cotton swab and I do not dilute it. I’ve struggled with adult acne for years and have tried many things but what I’ve mentioned above seems to have helped me more than anything else.
Same here anonymous or 372. But I have a lot of this stuff. I have two under-the-skin blemishes that are underneath my mouth, like an inch away. I poked them and now they’re healing because I was fed up with it and just ignored the pain and squeezed ’em. Same goes for my left cheek, except they were pimples. And I have two or three blackheads on my right cheek. My forehead is just a bunch of acne scars that I just started putting lemon juice and aloe on today. I started getting acne when I was eleven and I’ll be turing 14 in the beginning of December. But I don’t know how long my nose has had all of these dots on it that white crap comes out if I push on them really hard, I don’t know what they are and my nose occasionally had pimples on it. I occasionally get bumps above my chest too. I don’t get acne on my back, arms, or legs. I kinda am tanned and a little sunburned right now. My hair is blonde with some darker colors and sometimes really dry and other times really greasy. I also have bangs and my hair is shoulder-length and straight. I just started using Sea Breeze which is a deep clean astringent and Biove products like the nose strips and heat activated cleanser. I also use a lot of AVON products. I tried OXY and that bleached all of my towels. YIKES! They all turned orange! I think my acne is getting better and my main concerns are the wounds healing (and they hopefully won’t come back) and my acne scars healing. The blackheads seem to be going away so maybe I’ll have a great summer! Because I’m always wearing piles of make up and I’d rather not!
