Oral isotretinoin (sold under a variety of different names) is used to treat cystic acne and commonly causes dry lips, skin and sun sensitivity. More seriously, it has been linked to birth defects, liver disease, severe depression and suicidal thoughts. Chinese medicine teaches that cysts and nodules associated with acne come from a build up of “phlegm” and “dampness.” Ice cream, cheese and milk are a direct cause of phlegm production. Sugar creates “dampness,” which lays the foundation for cystic acne to develop.

I am 18..and I have oily skin which is very prone to pimples.Generally they go off naturally.But recently I had a pimple which got squeezed while sleeping.Now it had turned dark black with 3 heads.The spot had also swollen though it does not pain.I have been using sandalwood paste and some antiseptic creams to remove the mark.But all in vain.It has remained all the same.Its been a long time, almost 2-3weeks and now I have started to fear that the mark has become permanent.Its on the right cheek just under my eyes and it looks more horrible since I have white skin.

I’ve seen a lot of recommendations from here but before I purchase anything I wanted to see what you most recommend. So far, this is what I’m thinking of doing… Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap Tea Tree to wash my face morning and night, every morning take the Cod Liver Oil, and do a mask for 30-60 minutes at night. You’ve mentioned various options for this.. do you recommend the baking soda or the Bentonite Clay? Any advice on new regimen before I begin would be most appreciated!

I don’t think so. The pimples may look different but the cause is still the same: caused by bacteria or the unbalanced of the appropriation, assimilation, elimination processes of our body. And of course different pimples have different treatments 🙂

Since there have been no studies determining whether aloe in creams and lotions is still active, Polisky recommends sticking to aloe straight from the plant, which you can find at your local health food or drugstore. Or look for a gel without a laundry list of preservatives, and dot onto your spots or smooth over your entire face after cleansing and before you put on lotion.    

Oral contraceptives are a viable option for cystic acne in some women. This method is especially effective if you tend to develop acne cysts during hormone fluctuations related to your menstrual cycle.

For severe cases of acne, I always prescribe internal herbal remedies together with botanical topical products. For acne that’s mild to moderate, simple botanical ingredients can create a successful protocol to completely clear the skin.

If you’re dealing with mild acne and your skin exhibits only occasional breakouts, you may be able to accurately self-diagnose and treat your skin with the right products and routine. However, if any of the following warning signs are present, it’s essential to make an appointment with a skin care professional or physician as soon as possible:

Tea tree oil is an antibacterial agent that can help clear out the microbes clogging your skin. Avoid using undiluted tea tree oil — it’ll burn your skin, and worsen acne. Read the warning label on the bottle.

Eat healthily. Foods that are highly processed and contain a lot of oils greatly increase the amount of acne on your body. Getting the proper amount of nutrients from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein help your skin to regenerate faster and limit unnecessary oil production. When at all possible, avoid foods that are processed or contain a lot of sugar (think junk foods).

Grade II: This acne grade refers to moderate acne that features a higher saturation of blackheads and whiteheads along with a higher number of pimples. Breakouts are more frequent than Grade I acne, and there may be development of papules and pustules.

Are there any things mentioned here you haven’t yet tried?? Unfortunately, many of them may make things worse before they get better, but only temporarily (for a few days to maybe a week… but even then it should calm down after a couple of days)!

1) Apply rose water and lemon juice in equal quantities on your face for almost two hours before u go 2 bed. wash it off with warm water and then with cold water. see to it dat this mixture does not go into ur eyes or ELSE U’LL END UP JUMPING AROUND IN PAIN!!!

Due to the severity of cystic acne, over-the-counter (OTC) treatments for acne aren’t strong enough. This means you’ll need to see a dermatologist for prescription medications. Depending on the type of treatment used, you may not see full results for up to eight weeks.
