If your acne is the hormonal type, “no topical product alone will make a huge difference,” says Jennifer MacGregor, a dermatologist in New York City. In fact, the treatment a doctor gives you may not even seem like it’s about skin at all. For many women, taking birth-control pills can help clear up skin. Because most contain estrogen and progestin, they help suppress testosterone and prevent breakouts. Already on the pill and still breaking out? A doctor may prescribe spironolactone, a drug for hypertension that controls androgens. Don’t take it if you’re thinking of getting pregnant, though, since it can cause birth defects. (Many doctors prescribe spironolactone to women of child-bearing age only if they’re also on the pill.)
Chemical peels are performed to reduce fine lines, treat wrinkles, improve the appearance of mild scarring, treat some types of acne, and reduce age spots. During the treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin. The skin blisters and eventually peels off.

Cornstarch is very gentle on the skin, so it is a great option for those of us who have very sensitive skin. You can apply a cornstarch and water paste to individual blemishes, or to your whole face, and you can leave it on as long as you like.

Danby advises acne patients to cut down on dairy and eliminate straight-up milk altogether. You also might want to start avoiding processed foods. A recent study found a significant correlation between acne and foods like pasta, bread, and white rice. One reason for this might be that your body quickly converts these high-glycemic-index foods into simple sugars, which triggers a flood of insulin that can magnify the effect androgens have on acne.

Hey guys, im 16 and ive had acne since i was 12. so i went on a medication called rouacctaine and it worked a treat, and i was takien of the medication….but, a few months later, and the acne start coming back…and i was told this: ACNE OF THE FOREHEAD AND AROUND THE NOSE, AND BAD EATING HABBITS, AROUND THE MOUTH AND CHIN ARE HORMONES…..my advice…get a clean towel and lay it on your pillow everynight, it avoids sharing and spreading dead skin cells that fall off. Then get some sudocrem, or some Savlon, and apply to the areas then leave over night, do it for a few days in a row, then leave for a day or so, then repeat, this gives the skin time to heal. 🙂 hope it helps. Don’t overdo it. “Using any more than two acne products is just going to dry you out and make it worse,” says New York dermatologist Amy Wechsler says. Avoid skin care products with alcohol, which can irritate your skin, causing outbreaks. And never pick, scratch, pop, or squeeze blemishes. When you do shower, be sure to rinse conditioner out of your hair. One potential cause of bacne is conditioner that hasn’t been properly washed from hair. I’m 38 and still get pimples. Never had it much as a teenager but once I hit 32 seems I get the occasional really bad pimple that sticks around FOREVER. I use to sell proactiv, so I bought it, the only thing out of the whole system that works is refining mask, u can buy it pretty cheap on ebay, so don’t bothering buying it thru the tv ads. Also, the toothpaste “mask” on a pimple will work, it’s a cheap way to help a zit. toothpaste also works on bug bites like chigers or mosquito bits. I’ve tried many OTC stuff not many work, gonna try a few on here, I’ll let ya all know how they work.

Acne is not all that well understood, even by scientists (2). Since we have no formal cure for it, it makes much more sense to avoid developing acne in the first place. Technically, acne is classified as a disease that affects the skin’s oil glands. Think of your pores (the small holes in your skin) as pipes to the oil glands (underneath your skin). Anything clogging up these pipes, and you’ve got acne. I’ve tried sooooooooooooo many things, like tomatoes/tomato paste, which was a grin, and apple cider vinegar, which stung intensely and gave me a serious reaction, and many more, of course also including probably every store-bought wash/treatment. Isotretinoin is a powerful drug that’s used to treat the most severe cases of acne. Your doctor may recommend this drug if you have severe acne that doesn’t get better with other medications, including antibiotics.
Vitamins and Minerals: This one is a no brainer. If you want to enjoy overall good health, treat your acne, and have nice looking skin then you must consume all of the essential vitamins and minerals everyday (you need a total of 76). Most importantly, you need to forget the ridiculous adage that says… “You can get all the vitamins and minerals you need from your diet”.
Wash your face with water and pat dry. Rinse 3 strawberries and mash them up well, taking care that they don’t get over-mashed and runny. Add the strawberries to two teaspoons of honey, and thoroughly blend them together. Apply to your face and let the mixture sit for 20 minutes. Rinse off completely with warm water, pat dry, and moisturize if your skin has a tendency to dry out. Use twice a week for at least a month.
This process can make your skin dry. To ease the dryness you can add a drop clove oil. Clove oil has amazing properties of battling cystic acne. But make sure to dilute clove oil properly as it is very strong and powerful.
Treating back acne, just like facial acne, can be challenging. Because everyone’s skin is different and responds differently to medications, there is not one treatment that works for everyone. With that in mind, your dermatologist will assess both your skin and acne breakouts to develop a personalized treatment regimen for you to follow. Some of the most common and effective regimens include:
– I use this mask 2-3x a week over my entire face. I also use it as a spot treatment when I feel a pimple start to form on my jawline or chin – and voila! The next day it is nearly gone, and much less painful.
Baby powder contains cornstach so if you have oily skin it works wonders. Apply a powder base over it afterward. I recommend using a blush brush for even coverage. If using it at night apply baby powder leave on for 30 min to an hour applying seabreeze afterward (found in acne aisle).
You can also mix it up and do the vitamin c morning and night and drink the ACV in the afternoon. Just play with it. I would start out being aggressive with it and back off slowly until you get to a maintanence point.
Don’t ever take Accutane. The side effects are too dire and not worth it!! Any decent, informed doctor will tell you this. There are natural remedies out there that are incredibly effective for keeping acne at bay. Apple Cider Vinegar 2 teaspoons in 8 ounces of purified water 3 X a day. B vitamins are also incredible for helping to clear acne, particularly in Coenzymated forms (if you get an initial breakout don’t worry – that’s a good sign it’s clearing things out). Ground Flaxseeds and Hemp seeds are also great for skin. Tea Tree Oil works amazingly well as a spot treatment, it’s more powerful than Benzamycin and without the toxic effects. Just know there are natural remedies out there that clear skin! You don’t have to rely on medication that will damage your body.

Like I mentioned in step 1, after I went off of the birth control pill, I began to get really interested in finding natural cures instead of turning to prescriptions. Another medication I had been on for over 4 years was Prilosec (a Proton Pump Inhibitor prescribed for acid reflux that essentially turns off the production of stomach acid). I knew that Prilosec was “working” for me (read: no acid reflux) , but the more research I did, the more I felt intuitively like I needed to ween off of it.
