In the meantime, get a medium head of cabbage, a garlic clove, & some good salt (Kosher, etc.). Shred the cabbage & garlic (you can use a food processor), pound it down approx. 10 mins until the juices are over the top of it… put it all in a glass jar & pack it down until you can see the juice at the top of the cabbage. Let it sit for 3 days & then put it in your fridge. Eat 2-3 T of that each day… you can even work up to 2 T w/each meal. If you are afraid of garlic breath, then leave out the garlic :). If you need more info, Google “Sally Fallon sauerkraut” & you should be able to get more details. It is super easy!! The fermented food can help your gut, which can heal the rest of your body.

I’ve had bad acne since elementry school and nothing ever worked. I’m 17 and last year i went on accutane which cleared up EVERYTHING-scars and all. the only downside was the side effects-i only got dry lips and my eye sight got a little worse but it is risky. after a year or so the acne started coming back-def. a lot better than it was before accutane but it still bugs me that i have acne again. i’m going to get glycolic acid peels for scars and then see what happens. if nothing works i’ll probably go on accutane again-to me its worth it.

hey im 13 and ive had acne since i was in 6th grade and last year i got proactiv and it really does work..i mean it doesnt work for everybody but it reallly works for me=] hope yall try it because i believe you will feel a big difference on your skin.

Extra virgin coconut oil can be used topically and internally for acne cysts. While applying oil to a pimple may sound counterproductive, this remedy does work well in some cases. Coconut oil can also be used internally. It has antibacterial properties and can heal from the inside out. A typical dose is from 1-3 tablespoons daily. It can be taken plain or added to food.

Wash your face twice daily with a benzoyl peroxide cleanser. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective acne treatments. It is found in many face washes. Wash your face when you wake up in the morning and before going to bed at night.[1]

Toothpaste can help dry out a pimple, but it’s not a real solution for acne and can damage your skin. Stick to products made specifically for acne. Alternatively, there are some natural solutions you could try. For example, many people have great success clearing up acne by washing the affected area with honey (particularly manuka honey) daily or using it as a mask. You can also use it as a spot treatment.

Rinse your face with water and pat dry. Separate the whites from the yolks. You can use as many as you like, but normally 2 to 3 is enough. Whisk the whites until they’re frothy, and let them sit for a few minutes. Cover your face with the mixture (applying with fingertips is easy) focusing on problem spots. 3 to 4 layers is usually enough, but make sure to wait the first has dried before applying more. Allow the mask to sit and dry for about 20 minutes before rinsing off completely with warm water and a patting dry with a soft washcloth. Apply moisturizer appropriate for your skin type.

One big thing I’ve noticed helps is going to the steam room at my gym, or like another comment mentioned, doing hot yoga or any activity that really makes you sweat a lot. Of course, MAKE SURE TO WASH YOUR FACE WELL AFTERWARDS!

Several scales exist to grade the severity of acne vulgaris, but no single technique has been universally accepted as the diagnostic standard.[66][67] Cook’s acne grading scale uses photographs to grade severity from 0 to 8 (0 being the least severe and 8 being the most severe). This scale was the first to use a standardized photographic protocol to assess acne severity; since its creation in 1979, the scale has undergone several revisions.[67] The Leeds acne grading technique counts acne lesions on the face, back, and chest and categorizes them as inflammatory or non-inflammatory. Leeds scores range from 0 (least severe) to 10 (most severe) though modified scales have a maximum score of 12.[67][68] The Pillsbury acne grading scale simply classifies the severity of the acne from 1 (least severe) to 4 (most severe).[66][69]

“Acne is caused by increased oil production, bacteria, pore blockage, and irregular skin cell turnover,” board-certified dermatologist Eric Meinhardt, M.D., tells SELF, and that goes for your face and your back. Sebaceous glands in the skin produce oil, which can collect along with dead skin cells in the pores, plugging them up and giving bacteria a perfect breeding ground, all of which can lead to redness, whiteheads, blackheads, and sometimes infection. Hormones can play a large role, which is why you might break out more around your period, for instance. And if you’ve noticed that your breakouts pop up in similar places as other family members, that could be acne’s genetic components at Meinhardt says.

If you wear a backpack, the pressure it places on your back could be doing your skin a disservice. The same can be said of sports equipment, like shoulder pads for football players, or music equipment, like the strap from a guitar. The friction and sweat caused by the pressure of these types of backpacks and gear can result in what is known as acne mechanica. This is a type of acne that results from a mixture of friction, heat, and pressure. Acne mechanica can be treated with topical treatments, and may clear up on its own with the proper hygiene regimen.

Michelle Branch uses this) For an exfoliating treatment – grind almonds till they turn to powder. Add oatmeal, honey, and lavender oil (at health food stores) to the almond powder and mix into a paste. wash with normal cleanser then gently apply scrub evenly to entire face (avoiding delicate eye area) and wash off after 20 seconds.

Avoid Sugar – Undoubtedly one of the most challenging lifestyle habits to change, but also one of the most critical. Sugar consumption (even in small amounts) can wreak havoc on your insulin levels and cause acidosis in the body, which in turn results in inflammation and acne breakouts. Stick with low-glycemic natural sweeteners such as Stevia and Xylitol (derived from Birch).

Apple cider vinegar is a simple and inexpensive cure for acne that works very well for many people. It can be used internally and externally for acne.  When used topically, apple cider vinegar fights bacteria, supports the natural acidic nature of the skin and can shrink pores. Used internally, apple cider vinegar helps to alkalize the body and supply probiotics to the system.

Oral contraceptives: Oral contraceptives, which are low in estrogen to promote safety, have little effect on acne one way or the other. Some contraceptive pills have been shown to have modest effectiveness in treating acne. Those that have been U.S. FDA approved for treating acne are Estrostep, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, and Yaz. Most dermatologists work together with primary-care physicians or gynecologists when recommending these medications.

People may tell you that eating French fries, chocolate, or pizza causes acne. But there is no proven link between diet and acne. Even intense stress does not cause acne, although it can make it worse.

  1. Antibiotics. These work by killing excess skin bacteria and reducing redness. For the first few months of treatment, you may use both a retinoid and an antibiotic, with the antibiotic applied in the morning and the retinoid in the evening. The antibiotics are often combined with benzoyl peroxide to reduce the likelihood of developing antibiotic resistance. Examples include clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide (Benzaclin, Duac, Acanya) and erythromycin with benzoyl peroxide (Benzamycin). Topical antibiotics alone aren’t recommended.
