I’m 19 and have has acne since I was 11. The things that I have found that work best (for me, maybe you too) is washing my face with a anti-bacterial, oil-free face wash that has acne fighting products, twice daily. About every 3-4 days, exfoliate using either a wash cloth or a wash that has micro-beads. when you’re exfoliating, don’t SCRUB, lightly massage the cleanser into your face. (Scrubing will break the skin, which leads to scarring.) If you MUST pop a zit, (and I’m a popper, so I understand it can be habit) wash your hands SUPER well before you pop it, use a kleenex on the two fingers you’re using to pop the zit. This prevents any dirt from going inside your freshly popped zit. After you’ve popped your zit, wash your hands again (with anti-bacterial soap) and lightly wash your face. Then apply your topical creams/gels or whatever you use on your skin to help clear. If you use a lotion, make sure it is oil free and fits the description closet to your skin type. If you don’t match your skin type, you’re only causing more problems for yourself.
Try home rememdies, since they will give you the least amount of damage to your skin. And don’t go from a .2% benzoyl peroxide acne treatment to a 10% one. The extreme change will just cause a HUGE breakout.(ie, clean and clear acne 3-step system.)
Do this twice day ( morning and night) and you will see an improvement. My acne started clearing up the next day. You can find all the products at cvs or a pharmacy near you. It works much better than 250 dollar tubes of medicine that dont even work !
I would like to ditch the pharmaceuticals and try a natural approach to treating my acne, but I am terrified that if I stop using the medications and start a new regimen I’ll go through a withdrawal phase where things get really bad before I see any positive results. Frankly, I’m not sure if I could mentally handle that at this point.
I suffered with cystic acne for 10 years before I found anything that worked. I tried everything short of oral medications and injections. Turns out what worked for me was in my kitchen cabinets the whole time.
Many dermatologists and doctors will prescribe oral antibiotics to help treat cystic acne. Antibiotics are only recommended for short term use, and prolonged use can result in bacterial resistance to antibiotics that will render them ineffective. There are noted side effects with oral antibiotic usage for the treatment of acne, including headaches, rash, dizziness, gastrointestinal issues, and even dizziness. Most often, doctors recommend that topical creams and products be used in conjunction with oral antibiotics for ultimate effectiveness.
“Some teenagers are very confident and self-assured even if their face looks terrible, so they’re easy to deal with,” Taylor said. “But then there are kids who become very depressed and withdrawn and may isolate themselves. With them I try to be hopeful and optimistic, upbeat and positive, to tell them that I know it’s hard having this condition and to show some sympathy. Or empathy, really, because I had acne, too, when I was a teen.”
Try Spearmint Tea 1 cup of boiling water with a heaping tsp of tea boil on low for 5-10 minutes. Drink twice a day. Also some acne is because of the polystic ovary disorder. Ask your doctor. If that is the case he can help clear it up.
Baking soda has worked great for me for preventing breakouts and improving scars. It helps the appearance of scars as it is a good exfoliator. Unfortunately, baking powder wouldn’t have the same affect.
Once you feel a zit coming on, like many people have said, use toothpaste, preferably one that has baking soda in it. (you can also mix baking soda and water to make a paste, I like toothpaste just because it has a cooling effect, which makes me feel like its working, but whatever your prefer.) Put a thin layer on before bed, and rinse in the morning with warm water and your cleanser.
Aside from the physical discomfort, acne patients can suffer serious psychological trauma. They feel ashamed of their appearance, and some even feel the acne is their fault. And of course, this kind of stress tends to aggravate the acne and make breakouts worse. It’s a vicious cycle.
