I would also suggest a wakeup and before going to bed rinse of your face with a cottonball or cottonpad dampened with witch hazel. It gently removes a lot of the oil from your skin without drying you out. Keep a small bottle of it with you during the day and it is great for a midday removal of any oil that may accumulate on your face.
Use tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is often used topically for conditions like acne, wounds, infections and skin lesions. To treat your acne, use a tea tree oil that’s at a dilution of 5–15 percent. Apply 2-3 drops to a cotton ball and dab it over your acne.
Treating acne requires patience and perseverance. Any of the treatments listed above may take two or three months to start working (even isotretinoin). Unless there are side effects such as excessive dryness or allergy, it is important to give each regimen or drug enough time to work before giving up on it and moving on to other methods. Using modern methods, doctors can help clear up the skin of just about everyone.
I am 17 and have had horrible severe acne all over my face, arms, and back since the third grade because I have overactive oil glands. I highly recommend the oatmeal face mask immediately after I washed it off my skin was softer and the irritation and redness went down and I have rosacea and it also helped reduce that as well and made my acne less severe. Thank you so much for your help.
Laser and other light therapies can reduce the levels of p.acnes on the skin, but there is limited evidence to support the effectiveness of this approach. Dermatologists sometimes offer a chemical peel to treat blackheads and papules.
Hidradenitis suppurativa – A skin disease called hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) can look like everyday acne. It is a long-term skin disease, which often goes undiagnosed. If you have acne in your armpit, on your groin, or under your breasts, you might have HS.
for girls or guys with sensitive skin please dont use scrubs everyday it will hurt/strip your skin and you will get very red/dry use something like a cleansing gel or cream and wash off at least morning and night i use ‘dove sensitive non-foaming facial cleanser 🙂 works good.. It is important to understand that even with the best hygiene, skin care regimen and attention to prevention techniques, your skin can still have acne breakouts. To avoid prolonged discomfort from breakouts and potential scarring of the skin, if your acne does not respond to the prevention recommendations listed above, be sure to schedule with your dermatology provider.
High-Zinc Foods: People with low zinc levels are prone to cystic acne. By consuming foods like rich in zinc like grass fed beef, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, cashews you prevent the deficiency of zinc. Zinc helps us in maintaining a healthy digestive tract and skin.
Then I finally mixed honey and cinnamon together creating a paste. I then wear it like a mask for how ever long i want. it is recommended to sleep in it but i don’t. Then I rinse it off with warm water.
Tea tree oil is an essential oil extracted from the leaves of a small tree native to Australia. It has long been touted as a safe and effective alternative treatment for acne. In 1990, researchers studied 124 acne patients. Some were treated with 5% tea tree oil in a water-based gel. Others were treated with 5% benzoyl peroxide, an ingredient found in many over-the-counter acne remedies.
The conclusion of this study was very promising: “We successfully developed lipid vehicles to deliver curcumin to the skin for P. acnes inhibition. Combined effects of curcumin and lauric acid were found in inhibiting P. acnes. A histological examination confirmed normal skin morphologies after lipid vehicle treatments. In summary, curcumin-loaded vehicles are a promising tool for the topical delivery of curcumin to inhibit the growth of P. acnes.”
Contrary to popular belief, acne-prone skin still needs to be moisturized. Using topicals that focus on drying out the skin tricks the skin into producing even more oil, thereby further contributing to clogged pores and more acne.
Epsom salts not only relax your muscles but can soothe inflamed skin and dry out oily patches. An oatmeal bath also sucks up excess oil on your skin. Add a cup of epsom salts or a half-cup of plain, unflavored oats to your bath water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes.
Many times cystic acne can be improved by discarding certain foods from your diet. Similarly the inclusion of certain foods in the diet will help clear off cystic acne. Raisins and figs are known to clear the skin of any type of acne. They are fiber-rich foods that help eliminate the toxins from the body. These toxins in the body are responsible for the occurrence of cystic acne.
In a recent study in Taiwan at Chang Gung University, the use of curcumin in fighting the Propionibacterium species, the main cause of inflammatory acne, was investigated. To deliver curcumin through the skin, a lipid (oil) vehicle was tested, and lauric acid (C:12) was found as the most effective lipid vehicle in inhibiting acne. The lipid vehicle of lauric acid was found to penetrate the skin and accumulate in the skin, along with the curcumin, providing an effective combination in inhibiting acne.
You can try any one of the remedies mentioned below for treating cystic acne. Apart from that you have to eat a nutritional diet, follow good skin care regimen and few prevention tips for effective results.
It’s also important to wash your hair daily if it’s oily, and avoid oily gels. You want to keep oil off your face. Plus, you need to take care during sports. Wash your face after you’ve been exercising. Anything that holds sweat on your skin — like a baseball cap or a helmet — can make acne worse. So wipe down your helmet chinstraps with alcohol after use. If you have pimples on your body, take off your sweaty clothes right after sports and jump in the shower.
When blemishes crop up, apply over-the-counter products with either 1% hydrocortisone cream along with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and 2% salicylic acid, says Dr. Zeichner. A good one to try is Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne Treatment ($5; target.com). And whatever you do, don’t pick your face. It will only make things worse, and can lead to inflammation and scarring.
GAH!! im going crazy!! I’ve tried everything! Clearisil, Neutrogena, all that. I even tried the whole putting honey on and what not. I also tried the toothpaste and THAT hasnt worked…my brother uses stuff called clyndamycin phosphate and so far he’s doin good…but i dont know what to do…any help? Or should i just go talk to my doctor…i shuffling with the idea of laser acne removal here in NJ….:->-(:-(
Despite being sore, picking at cystic acne is never a good idea. It absolutely does not help and it will only lead to possible infection. Rouleau recommends giving up this bad habit. “If you pick at it and try to get it to come out through the surface, you are working against your skin’s repair and healing processes and this only makes it all worse,” she says. “Picking at a cyst will only leave you with an oozing, bleeding scab that’s impossible to cover with makeup, all the while, the bump still sits underneath.”
Great list of ingredients here, may also suggest adding turmeric to this list, its highly antibacterial and healing which its popular in ayurvedic medicine and acne remedies in India. UMF honey also contains these properties, is moisturizing and soothes skin. My favourite remedy for acne contains turmeric, honey, tea tree and neem or lavender oil (to soothe redness and irritation). There are many other remedies you can apply depending on your skin type.
Take zinc. Studies show that oral zinc therapy can help heal acne. Zinc is an essential trace mineral with antioxidant properties. This helps protect cells in the body from damage caused by bacteria and viruses. It’s common to have slightly low levels of zinc, but taking a multivitamin and eating a healthy diet should give you all the zinc you need. While you can take supplements, the best dietary sources of zinc are:
Hormone therapy may be helpful for some women with acne, especially for those with signs and symptoms (irregular periods, thinning hair) of androgen (male hormone) excess. The hormone therapy consists of low-dose estrogen and progesterone (birth control pills) or anti-androgen medications (spironolactone).
It is highly recommended that you use only oil-free cosmetics, also known as non-comedogenic cosmetics, due to the fact that they do not clog the pores. This helps in preventing the recurrence of acne. It is important that you check the label of the product before buying it so as to check whether or not it is non-comedogenic. Mayo clinic highly recommends that those who use make-up should wash it off before they go to bed. If you do not wash off the make-up, it can clog the pores of your skin, thereby resulting in acne. AcneNet.org recommends that if you are using any acne medications, you should apply them to your skin prior to applying make-up.
Pete, hang in there bro. You are loved I am sure, and you are more than just the pimples on your face. Talk to your mom and dad about how you are feeling. As you can see from this page, you are not alone. Chin up and smile! 🙂

I wouldn’t think it is detoxing, but anything is possible. What did you use to do the oil cleansing? Certain oils can break you out. When I did it with coconut oil, I got terrible cysts. I now use only jojoba oil or hempseed oil (both non-comedogenic oils) and it has improved my skin so much! Also, honey works for some, but some kinds can clog pores (a lot of honey isn’t real honey and is highly processed). It may take some more experimenting to find what works for you. But don’t give up! Hope you’ll keep us updated 🙂
